WWW
World Wide Web
In one sentenceThe system of linked web pages you open in a browser. The internet is the network; the web is one thing that runs on it.
What it means
The internet is the global network of connected computers. The World Wide Web, invented by Tim Berners-Lee in 1989, is the collection of pages and sites on that network, linked together and opened with a Browser. Email, apps and video calls also use the internet without being "the web".
The "www." at the start of a web address is just a subdomain. Most sites work with or without it and redirect one to the other.
How to use it
- Pick one version of your site address (with or without www) and redirect the other to it, so search engines see one site.
How AI helps
AI agents use the web the way you do: they search it, read pages and, with Computer Use, click through sites.
