HTTP / HTTPS
Hypertext Transfer Protocol
In one sentenceThe language browsers and servers use to request and send web pages. HTTPS is the encrypted, secure version.
What it means
When you open a page, your browser sends an HTTP request and the server sends back a response with a status code: 200 means OK, 301 means moved, 404 means not found, 500 means the server broke.
HTTPS adds encryption with an SSL/TLS certificate and is now the standard for every site.
How to use it
- Make sure your site and every link you share starts with https://.
- A 404 on an important page loses visitors and search ranking. Redirect old URLs to their new home.
How AI helps
AI agents and automations talk to APIs over HTTP. When something breaks, the status code (401 unauthorized, 429 rate limited, 500 server error) tells you where to look.
