LLM
Large Language Model
In one sentenceThe engine behind ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini: a model trained on huge amounts of text that predicts the next word, very well.
What it means
A large language model is an AI system trained on a massive amount of written text (books, websites, code, conversations). From all that reading it learns how language works, and it generates answers one small chunk at a time, each time predicting the most useful next piece. Those chunks are called tokens.
"Large" refers to the size of the model: billions of internal settings called Parameters. That scale is what lets one model write a sales email, explain a contract, translate Spanish and debug code.
Popular LLMs include GPT (from OpenAI, used in ChatGPT), Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google), Grok (xAI) and Llama (Meta).
How to use it
- Treat an LLM like a brilliant new hire on day one: smart, fast, and knows nothing about you or your business until you tell it.
- Give it a role, the goal, the audience, and an example of what good looks like. More context in, better output out.
- Different LLMs have different strengths. If one gives you a flat answer, try the same prompt in another.
- Fact-check names, numbers and quotes. LLMs can hallucinate.
