Temperature

What it means
When a model picks the next word, it can play it safe (always choose the most likely word) or take chances (sometimes choose less likely ones). Temperature is the dial between the two.
Low temperature suits factual tasks, data extraction and consistent formatting. Higher temperature suits brainstorming, taglines and creative writing.
How to use it
- Most chat apps hide this setting. You can get the same effect with words: "Give me 10 wildly different options" versus "Give me the single most standard answer."
- If you build with an API, set temperature low for anything that must be repeatable.
