Role Prompting
In one sentenceTelling the AI who to be ("You are a CFO", "You are a skeptical buyer") to shape its expertise and perspective.
What it means
Assigning a role focuses the model on the knowledge, vocabulary and priorities of that person. "Review this proposal" gets general feedback. "You are a procurement director who has to justify this spend to a CFO. Review this proposal" gets sharper feedback.
How to use it
- Role-play sales calls: "You are a busy VP of Sales who gets 50 cold messages a week. I will pitch you; push back like a real prospect."
- Get tough feedback: "You are my harshest critic. What is weak about this post?"
- Write for an audience: "You are a [target client]. What would make you stop scrolling?"
