MX Record
Mail Exchange record
In one sentenceThe DNS record that tells the world which mail servers receive email for your domain. Change it and you change where your email goes.
What it means
MX records point your domain's incoming email to your provider, such as Google Workspace or Microsoft 365. Each has a priority number; the lowest is tried first.
To give an AI its own inbox, or to have a tool process incoming mail, you either connect to an existing mailbox or point a subdomain's MX records (for example, inbox.yourdomain.com) at the service that will receive it.
How to use it
- Never change the MX records on your main domain to test something. Use a subdomain for AI or automation inboxes.
- If email suddenly stops arriving after a DNS change, check the MX records first.
