Whisper is English. The model downloads once and is cached by your browser. A 10 minute file takes about a minute on a recent laptop.
How to get the most out of it
- Talk like you are explaining it to a friend. Do not worry about ums, Tidy up removes them.
- Say "new paragraph" when you change topic. It keeps the note readable.
- Heard a word wrong? Tap the mic to pause (typing in the note pauses it too), fix it, tap the mic again to keep going. The audio stays in one clip.
- Stop when you are done. Every Stop adds a separate clip to the note, so one note can hold several recordings. New words land where your cursor is.
- Pick a transform. "Clean it up" keeps your words. "More ideas" is the one that surprises people.
Privacy: live dictation uses your browser's built-in speech engine (Chrome, Edge and Safari send the audio to their speech service and send the text back). Whisper transcription and everything else runs on your computer. Notes and audio are stored only in this browser.
